Children Learn Better In Their Mother Tongue

Children Learn Better in Their Mother Tongue

Mother Tongue is the first language that kids learn as they grow up. It is the only language that a child understands during the few crucial years of development. Taking instructions, following them and thinking accordingly becomes easier if similar language is spoken. Imagine a child’s first day at school, where the teacher speaks a language that is unknown to the kid. In worse cases, the child is unable to understand anything at all. Would that lead to a successful start? Definitely not!

Children whose educational system is not based on their first language are more likely to fail or drop out of schools in their early grades of schooling, as a child’s mother tongue tends to be the optimal language for literacy and learning in elementary and primary schools. Besides, parents demand their children’s educational system to be in their natal language in order to be more effective and lasting. Due to this reason, many elementary educational institutes and nurseries have been working on promoting educational practices in the natal and foreign languages along with modern tools, resources and practices.

Among the manynurseries and institutions that offer preschool in Abu Dhabi we are also focusing on improving the communication skills of children through multiple languages (mainly Arabic and English). Mosaic Reem Island Nursery is a very well-known nursery in Abu Dhabi that offers pre-schooling in such manner. There are a number of reasons due to which initial stages of a child’s education must be embraced in their natal language, few of which are mentioned below as follows.

  1. The process of acquiring education and learning does not begin from school. In fact, it begins at home soon after the birth of a child and resumes upon entering elementary school. The learning process begins by learning to communicate using the mother tongue. If the pupil finds that a similar language is used at school the interest in a pupil’s learning elevates resulting in higher rates of success.
  2. Education in one’s mother tongue results in better understanding of whatever is being taught. This is because children are likely to enrol more in educational programs that are based on their mother tongue. Besides, candidates are more likely to learn well, achieve goals of education and succeed.
  3. Primary education in the first language helps to attain proficiency in the language making pupils linguistically competent, improving their communication skills. However, not acquiring education in native language may result in the inability to communicate in the language in long term.
  4. An elementary education system based in native language enables children to learn better and think even better. A proper understanding of concepts and ideas lead towards out of the box thinking and extraordinary creativity and cognitive abilities. Besides, it aids the entire developmental phases and process that take place within a child.
